Re-imagine how Apple engages with retail teams
Over the last several years, Apple Retail introduced a suite of apps to support over 60,000 retail employees in over 500 stores. Each in-store role used a different set of platforms and tools, creating inefficiencies and uneven access to needed information.
We created a unified experience for comms, learning, and engagement with the goal of inspiring, developing, and retaining team members.
When employees arrive for their shift, they only have a few minutes to get up to speed on any new product offering, store policy, or third party promotion.
We proposed the Daily Download, a story-like feed co-curated by store managers and Cupertino. The result provides employees with timely information in a familiar format that’s easy to consume.
After they view their daily feed, employees can open a simple calendar to browse their schedule and find out where their shift will be.
Customers expect retail employees to be Apple encyclopedias. To help find answers quickly, we designed a low-effort visual search that displays a mix of trending products and services, as well as short-form articles with specs.
Success is the accumulation of successful days. At the end of each shift, employees can see their stats and net promoter scores, a key metric for promotion.
Our Apple stakeholders viewed retail stores as natural gateways to corporate employment.
Aside from helping employees be more successful in their day-to-day roles, another ask was to help employees grow within the company and learn new skills.
We proposed Apple Academy, a hard-skill and soft-skill career advancement curriculum that prepares employees for the next step in their career.
